Don't Spanish people speak Spanish???

It was quite an adventure getting to Barcelona! when we got on our train, the room with the bunkbeds where we were supposed to be sleeping was locked! we tried, with the help of the French- and Catalan-speaking Spaniard (Barcelonans main language is Catalan, not Spanish!) in the car next to us, to get it open with a screwdriver/pocketknife… but then discovered, because some other people were dismayed at their already-taken beds, that we were in the wrong car. we had to get back off the train and RUN two cars down, since it was already 10:17 – departure time! we made it, slept there, switched trains three times and made it to the train station in Barcelona at 12:46pm the next day. Then we took a number so we could buy our ticket for Geneva in a couple days (we learned our lesson about trying to buy it the day of, this last time!), and our number was finally called at 3:44pm! and then they only had tickets for the following day! not 2 or 3 days later! but we bought it anyways! only one day in barcelona and we spent how much, getting there and back to Geneva??? oh, well! so then we went in search of a place to stay (thought it sounded “adventurous” to just get to a city with no reservations and just wander till we found some… not quite such a romantic thing when you’re in the thick of it and tired from traveling!!). the first hostel had nothing, but the second one we made it to had ONE room left! perfect! right near the heart of town and the open-air markets and museums and EVERYTHING! we made sure to REST for a while before setting out down “Las Ramblas” – the main street through the old city, where there’s all kinds of action going on, from street performers to bird and flower markets – in search of “tapas”. we found a yummy one where Jason had “pulpo” (octopus tentacles, still with the suction cups on them – mmm) and we shared little plates of tomato bread, kebabs, and potatoes, in true tapas style! Oh, and Sangria!
